The end of Unionism in Nigeria - Chikeluba

Last year witnessed the protracted strike action by the academic staff Union of Universities (ASUU). The Union embarked on the action apparently as a final resort towards forcing the hand of the erstwhile President Buhari's administration to quit the plan to enlist their members in the paylist of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS). The prolonged battle that followed between the FG and ASUU, grounded academic activities in public Universities. It finally took the intervention of the judiciary to halt the power rumble, to the obvious delight of the FG. While the strike lasted however, FG in it's notoriety, activated the 'no work, no pay rule' , for the striking workers, who would have thought that it would be business as usual, a situation where all monies and emoluments accruable within the period, would be offsetted. Will Nigerians miss Buhari? - Chikeluba

Since 1960, few Nigerian leaders have been missed by a good number of the population that witnessed their time in office, these include the military ruler, Gen. Murtala Muhammad and the civilian President, Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar'Adua. For President Muhammadu Buhari, who prior to his election in 2015, had spent time and resources in failed bids to Aso Rock, it's left to be seen whether the nation will miss his administration. The general assessment of the PMB administration however does not convince one to think that the nation will fondly remember him. The following parameters are very significant in assessing the administration. The value of the Naira weakened in the course of the administration, a US Dollar exchanged for around 183 Naira in 2015, whereas in 2023, upon handing over to Chief Tinubu, the Naira exchanged at 460 Naira to a US Dollar officially, and around 700 Naira outside official price.
