Will Nigerians miss Buhari? - Chikeluba

Since 1960, few Nigerian leaders have been missed by a good number of the population that witnessed their time in office, these include the military ruler, Gen. Murtala Muhammad and the civilian President, Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar'Adua.

For President Muhammadu Buhari, who prior to his election in 2015, had spent time and resources in failed bids to Aso Rock, it's left to be seen whether the nation will miss his administration.

The general assessment of the PMB administration however does not convince one to think that the nation will fondly remember him.

The following parameters are very significant in assessing the administration. The value of the Naira weakened in the course of the administration, a US Dollar exchanged for around 183 Naira in 2015, whereas in 2023, upon handing over to Chief Tinubu, the Naira exchanged at 460 Naira to a US Dollar officially, and around 700 Naira outside official price.

While there were security lapses prior to the inception of Buhari's administration, the situation was more manageable, and government was verifiably taking steps at neutralizing terrorists and their threats. The security situation while PMB held sway, was ineffective and deficient in the necessary technical support needed in this modern times to contain international and local threats.

The relationship among the existing tribes in Nigeria was much more harmonious before PMB came to the scene as President. The bond that held tribes together was shredded by the Buhari administration. No administration in this country had been as nepotic as the one Buhari led, evidenced by the federal appointments and distribution of foreign aids received by Nigeria.

There's no gainsaying thusly that in comparison to its preceding government, the PMB administration didn't measure up to expectations.

Whether Nigerians will miss the administration or not, time will tell.
